Important Updates

We have made several updates to our website based on a number of recent changes. The two biggest changes are two new training centers. These are Shalom CPE Training Center in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, headed by Dr. Elvin Salarda. The other is Saint Andrews Theological Seminary. It is overseen by Dr. Raymond Lawrence, with SITs part of the faculty there.  In both of cases, the centers have been granted preliminary accreditation pending finalization of the process.

So our member directory, our Diplomate/SIT directory, and training center directories have been updated, as is our training center map.

Memorandum of Agreement Copy

We have put the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between CPSP and CPSP-Philippines on our DOCUMENTS page. (Go to ABOUT US and then DOCUMENTS). Two documents are there under Memorandum of Agreement between CPSP and CPSP-Philippines. One is a PDF of the agreement, and the other is a scan of the agreement signed back in 2013 by the General Secretary of CPSP, and the President of the Board of Trustees of CPSP-Philippines.

NOTE: CPSP-Philippines started out as an outreach project of the College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy (CPSP). In 2011, CPSP-Philippines (The Collegium of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy-Philippines) was incorporated in the Philippines. In 2015 the MOA was signed by both parties recognizing the independence of CPSP-Philippines while establishing the criteria for Equivalency of Standards and Reciprocity of Certifications.

Honoring a Colleague

CPSP-Philippines joins in sorrow with friends, family, and colleagues in the passing of Chaplain Victor S. Layug, July 16, 2018. He was an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. He served most recently as head chaplain of Mary Johnston Hospital in Manila. He was a board-certified clinical chaplain of CPSP-Philippines, and a CPE Supervisor-in-Training. Internment will be on July 20th.

A Few Upcoming Events

July 27.  5:30pm.  Commissioning of Chaplain trainees at Bukal Life Care. At Chapel B of PBTS.

July 28.  9am.  Certification Board for Clinical Chaplain. At Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. To be held in Conference Room.

October.  Dr. Dickens.  CPSP certified Diplomate Supervisor in CPE/T. Visiting Philippines to train students in Pastoral Care, and provide Supervisory Training.

November.  Dr. Lawrence, CPSP General Secretary visiting Philippines for Case Presentation training and representing CPSP in joint meeting with CPSP-Philippines.

Interpersonal Relationship Group Seminar

This announcement is from Dr. Cal Sodoy, Diplomate Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education/Training.

The Pastoral and Spiritual Care Training Center offers a two week (3-days per week, MWF) Interpersonal Relationship Group Seminar for congregations to enhance personal relationships among its members where anger, hurt, intimacy, love, care, and warmth for each other are openly identified, affirmed and recognized in an attempt to find out their valued meaning.

Three competencies are to be developed:

  • Personal awareness
  • Interpersonal awareness
  • Spiritual awareness

The goal is to be transparent and authentic to oneself in relationship with each other. This experience will lead to a deeper awareness of oneself in discovering our common humanity with each other. Thus, the forming of genuine and authentic relationships with fellow believers in the faith community are made possible. Therefore the sustaining presence of living together in the faith based on a loving, caring and transparent relationships will be affirmed and celebrated.

Fee:  P1000 per hour for group work.

Food and lodging:  Sonsor of teh seminar will be in charge.

Training location:  College of Theology, Central Philippine University (Iloilo City). Alternatively, the sponsor may arrange for a meeting area of their choice.

Dates of training:  Open and negotiable

July Updates

July 16.  A new CPE Extended group will be starting at Mary Johnston Hospital, with Dr. Sim Dang-Awan serving as the Supervisor.

July 28.  Clinical Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor Certification Board to be held in Baguio City.

Design work has commenced on the Membership ID card for CPSP-Philippines members. More to follow.

Schedule of Supervisor Cal Sodoy

Supervisor Cal Sodoy, head of Clinical Pastoral and Spiritual Care Training Center, has given his schedule for the rest of the year.

  • April 23 – May 18. CPE for graduate students at CPU School of Theology (Jaro, Iloilo City)
  • July 2 – Aug 31.  CPE with post-grad students in Davao City
  • Sept 3 – 30. Teaching Pastoral Theology at CPU School of Theology
  • Oct 8 – Nov 18. CPE graduate students. Capiz Emmanuel Hospital, Roxas City
  • Nov 22 – Dec 31.  Church-building project, Tablas Island, Romblon

CPE in Baguio

This Summer there are 22 CPE trainees in the two CPSP-Philippines training centers in Baguio City. Supervisor Paul Tabon, working with Pines City Doctors Hospital, has 7 trainees. Supervisor Celia Munson, of Bukal Life Care, has 6 trainees. Additionally at Bukal Life Care, there are two SITs active. Vo Canoy has 5 trainees, and Edgar Chan has 4 trainees.
